この授業は、図書館を活用して論文と科学技術資料を検索し、収集した一次情報の整理と仕分けの基礎を習得する。演習では、オープンソース・フリーウェアを活用して、マインドマップ、図形、グラフや発表ポスターを作成しながら、相手に伝わる理解しやすい資料を作成する基礎スキルを学ぶ。学期末には、ポスタープレゼンテーションを行う。(対象学生は、学部2年以上と大学院生で、英語力は一切問いません。短期交換留学生と一緒に学べる英語授業科目ですので、ぜひ皆さんお気軽にご履修ください)

*国際科目全般は、短期留学生の来日にあわせて授業開始するので、通常の授業より1週間遅れて開始する場合がある。担当教員に確認してください。

This course is designed to foster students' ability to identify, evaluate and use diverse information sources effectively in science and engineering studies. It involves the knowledge of information technology tools and their application to research. Students are required to give a poster presentation on their major study or research at the end of the semester.

以下に各回の主な学習項目を示す。研究に必要不可欠な情報資源である大学図書館の所蔵文献、学術データベースや電子ジャーナルまたは検索システムを利.用して検索し文献を検索、収集と管理に係る一連の手法を習得する。また講義では、科学技術や理工系における必須な図形描画、表計算、グラフ作成やポスター製作についての知識と技術を実習する。

The course introduces the use of some powerful tools for scientific research and engineering, field. The lectures include hands-on learning and applicable exercises that assumes no any previous experience or training, so the initial emphases are on the use of the basic scientific software and the basic research procedures.

Note that the lecture schedule is subject to constant revisions throughout the course.

現在研究している内容、或いは興味のあるテーマの学術論文(1～3通)を読んで要点を纏めて、ポスター発表することが望まれる

Students have to read 1 to 3 articles about varied topics, and at the end of the semester, the students are expected to make a poster presentation.

評価方法 (毎週の課題50%, 中間発表20%, ポスター発表30%)
出席が授業回数の70%に達することを前提条件としている。

Evaluation is given as follows; (Assignments 50%, midterm presentation 20%, Poster presentation 30%)

Since this course is a practical course, attendance and participation in class is obligatory. Only students who have 1) maintained at least 70% of attendance, 2) submitted all the assignments and 3) made their poster presentations can obtain the credits.

We expect students to be the active part of the learning process. We encourage the students' participation in class discussions, asking questions and interacting with others. If you have any comments on the topics covered, please feel free to share with the others in class.

Students are expected to come to class on time. Absences are excused in case of emergency, illness, or trips to conferences.
