This is a type-II(Cb)-categorized lecture for graduate students; Japanese-based course, with Japanese and English material
I will teach advanced chemical knowledge and way-of-thinking which are applicable for current biology, according to the following learning objectives (LOs). By middle or end of this course, students will be able to…
LO1: compare a variety of chemical substances which consist living things.
Steps to achieve LO1
1.1 Compare structures and roles of organic molecules.
1.2 Compare structures and roles of amino acids (monomers) and proteins (polymers).
1.3 Compare sugar-containing molecules; especially nucleic acids (i.e., DNA and RNA).
LO2: comprehend how these chemical substances are organized and metabolized in living things.
Steps to achieve LO2
2.1 Understanding how amino acids are synthesized and metabolized.
2.2 Understanding how sugars are synthesized and metabolized.
2.3 Understanding how nucleic acids are synthesized and metabolized.
2.4 Understanding how energy is created by the above metabolized compounds via citric-acid cycle

Take-home message: Chemical structure is everything about property !
Most students tend to use abbreviation of DNAs and RNAs (i.e, ATGC and AUGC) without comprehending deep inside of their chemical structure; without it, using abbreviation makes no sense. For example, can you surely explain ‘Why nature has chosen T instead of U for DNA' ?! If you'll struggle to comprehend this lecture, you gotta see different side of Mother Nature from chemical structures of biological molecules.
